Radiant heating controls the rate at which a body loses heat by turning large surface areas (floors, walls, ceilings) into large low temperature radiators. These surfaces surround a person with warmth. It works by circulating warm water through flexible, durable plastic tubing called Pex (cross linked polyethylene) embedded in the floor of your home. This tubing runs back and forth, wall to wall in continuous loops, eliminating joints thus eliminating potential leaks. Pex tubing is corrosion – resistant and is the most freeze-resistant tubing on the market. Radiant heat brings heat to every corner of every room. The heat radiates up through the floor warming the people, furnishings and the air in the room. The warmth stays down around where the people are, not up at the ceiling or lost to the outdoors every time a door or window is opened. It can be used anywhere (under tile, marble, wood, carpet and even concrete floors), there are no drafts or fans blowing dust, dirt or allergens in the air. As an added bonus, with the touch of a keypad you can adjust temperatures in particular zones of the house, warmer in one bedroom than another, for example, or cooler in a seldom-used playroom. It can potentially save up to 40% in energy costs compared with forced-air heating systems. Uponor also backs your system with a 30-year guarantee when installed by an Uponor-trained professional such as R&W Contractors. Your radiant system can be designed to meet both your needs and your budget.
Where does the Radiant Heat go?
It is installed in the concrete before the slab is poured in a new house.
It can be installed over suspended wood floors and covered with poured floor underlayments.
It can also be installed over the subfloor for remodeling projects and additions.
For remodels and additions, it can be installed between joists and for heating the upper floors of your new home.
R&W has been trained, educated and certified to install Uponor’s Radiant Floor Heating Systems. We offer a Radiant Floor Heating model that can be viewed by appointment. It is a 3-zone comfort house located in the Bixby area.
